Jamina Nepomuceno (24) killed by her partner in their home on Transvaalplein

On Saturday 17 May 2014 the 41-year-old Patrick Harvey Glenn J. reported to a police station of his own accord. He said he had argued with his 24-year-old girlfriend Jamina Garcia-Ann Nepomuceno at their flat on Transvaalplein in Amsterdam-Oost, that he had hit her twice, and that she was no longer moving. Officers were quickly on the scene, but resuscitation failed. The argument that day was the latest in a long series, usually about drugs and money. J. was a drug user and had a psychiatric disorder. A friend who lived nearby was often able to defuse such rows, but could not always calm him. At the hearing J. admitted that he had hit Jamina far more often than those two times, and that he had then put her in a chokehold. The prosecutor demanded six years in prison and tbs with compulsory treatment. In February 2015 the court went beyond that demand and imposed seven years and tbs. On appeal prosecutors again demanded seven years and tbs. On 8 April 2016 the Amsterdam court of appeal quashed the judgment and decided the case itself. It, too, did not find premeditation proven, partly because J.'s statements gave too little insight into what had gone on in him before and during the act. For manslaughter the appeal court imposed the same sentence as the district court: seven years and tbs with compulsory treatment.
