Rucienne Caupain (30) shot dead on Nieuwlandhof after a night out

Rucienne Luigi Caupain (30) was known in Amsterdam-Zuidoost as Poporois, Rois and Rasta. He had several girlfriends and children. On the night of Sunday 23 to Monday 24 March 2014 he first went to the Sweets event in Bloemendaal. At around half past eleven he returned to Amsterdam and went on to a party at Club Air on Amstelstraat. At about three in the morning he left. At twenty to four he got out of a car on Nieuwlandhof. There he was shot at close range. Caupain died at the scene; a 21-year-old friend who was with him was wounded. According to a witness the gunman wore a balaclava. Earlier that night two men in hoods had been noticed in the area. Three suspects were arrested — a man of 21, a man of 19 and a woman of 32 — but prosecutors released all three; there were insufficient grounds to bring them before the examining magistrate. Reporting pointed to a possible long-running feud between Caupain and a group from Zuidoost. The case remained unsolved.
