Mohammed el Mayouri (30) shot dead on Karperweg shortly before he was due to testify

Mohammed el Mayouri (30) spent the night of Friday 21 to Saturday 22 March 2014 in the shisha lounge Fayrouz on Amstelveenseweg, a place that appears in police files as a regular meeting point in Amsterdam's criminal world. At around two in the morning he left the premises. Just after turning the corner onto Karperweg he was shot dead. He died at the scene. Two men in dark jackets with large fur collars were seen fleeing in a black Volkswagen Golf. That car was found a short time later, set alight, on Sloterweg near the police academy. El Mayouri was a close acquaintance of Benaouf A. and turned out to be an important witness in a major police investigation into the Amsterdam underworld: he had been due to testify in the case surrounding the killing of Najib Bouhouh, who was shot dead in Antwerp in 2012. Prosecutors held that Benaouf A. was involved in that murder. Bouhouh in turn was an associate of the Antillean criminal Gwenette Martha, who was killed in Amstelveen two months after El Mayouri. The murder of El Mayouri remained unsolved.
