Former champion Nordin Ben Salah (32) shot dead by his car on President Kennedylaan

Nordin Ben Salah (32) was a Dutch-Moroccan boxer and kickboxer; as a professional boxer he won 36 of his 39 fights between 1994 and 2003. On Monday evening 20 September 2004 he gave a boxing class at a gym in Purmerend. He then phoned a girlfriend in Amsterdam to say he would be late, drove into the city and parked his car on President Kennedylaan in Amsterdam-Zuid. Within minutes he was shot at by two men. Ben Salah ran across the street, but the gunmen chased him and fired again. He collapsed and died at the scene. Residents saw the two men run off in different directions. Reports said Ben Salah had become active in criminal circles after his sporting career. Who he was meeting that evening never became clear, and no one has ever been arrested for the murder.
