Woman found dead in Salvation Army shelter in Zuidoost

On 24 October 2024 37-year-old Roxanne Adelaida de Cuba died at a Salvation Army shelter on Kikkenstein in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. A member of staff found her in her room at around 5.45 p.m. with a towel bound so tightly around her neck that no finger would fit underneath. The suspect is her then 49-year-old housemate Kelvin G., who was the only other person in the room at the time. According to prosecutors, an argument over 45 euros that De Cuba had allegedly taken from G. preceded the violence. Besides her own DNA, the towel also carried the suspect's DNA. An overdose has not been ruled out, however: her blood contained high concentrations of heroin, cocaine, methadone, THC and several medications. At a first case-management hearing in early 2025 prosecutors said they believe G. strangled her. A further preliminary hearing followed on 13 July 2026, with prosecutors charging G. with murder. The case is still running.
