Deadly stabbing in center of Amsterdam

On Tuesday evening, April 2, 2024, at approximately 8:15 PM, a fatal stabbing occurred at a Salvation Army shelter on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam, where an altercation between three individuals triggered the violence. The 31-year-old victim, Amsterdam resident Johannes Alspeer, was stabbed multiple times during the incident and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning. Immediately after the incident, police arrested a 55-year-old suspect named Marlon P. on suspicion of involvement in the fatal stabbing, while another person involved sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. During the first preliminary court hearing in Amsterdam on July 4, 2024, it was confirmed that the suspect would remain in pre-trial detention while the investigation into the exact circumstances and the psychological state of the perpetrator continues.
