Fatal stabbing in Zuid

In March 2024, 52-year-old David Blount was found murdered in his Balthasar Floriszstraat apartment in Amsterdam-Zuid, rolled in a carpet after suffering 29 stab wounds. Prosecutors demanded a 14-year prison sentence for 28-year-old Thomasz A., rejecting his claim of self-defense against a sexual assault due to the extreme violence involved. On 11 March 2025 the Amsterdam court convicted him of manslaughter and sentenced him to twelve years in prison. Three of the 29 stab wounds were fatal. The court rejected his plea of self-defence, because it could not be established that there had been an assault he needed to defend himself against.
