Man found dead in a home in Diemen was stabbed and strangled by his partner

On 14 January 2024 73-year-old Robertus 'Rob' Burger was found lifeless in his home on Sint Janskruid in Diemen, after neighbours had heard screaming and the cry "No, don't do it" coming from the house earlier that day. It was established that he had been strangled with the belt of a bathrobe and also stabbed several times with a knife. His 62-year-old partner Julia K. was herself seriously injured and was arrested as a suspect shortly after the incident. From the first hearings onwards she said she could remember nothing of what had happened in the house, prompting the court to order additional neurological and background investigation into the circumstances of this domestic tragedy; among other things, this established that she has an autism spectrum disorder. After that investigation the case was heard on its merits. Prosecutors demanded eight years in prison plus TBS with compulsory treatment, and the Amsterdam district court followed that demand, sentencing K. to eight years and TBS for the manslaughter of her partner.
