Kickboxer shot dead near skate park

In June 2024 a tragic incident took place underneath the Amsterdamsebrug in Amsterdam-East where 24-year-old kickboxer Mehdi Rebroub lost his life during a premeditated robbery of a Rolex watch. The perpetrators had lured the victim and his friends to the secluded spot under the bridge under false pretenses for a meeting, but upon arrival two masked men dressed in black suddenly appeared and held the group at gunpoint. When Mehdi Rebroub made a movement towards one of the robbers he was shot four times at close range, subsequently succumbing to his severe injuries at the scene while the perpetrators fled without the watch. The court later ruled that the act involved cold-hearted and senseless violence and sentenced the main perpetrator, 24-year-old Yassine El M., to fourteen years in prison for manslaughter and attempted robbery with violence, while two accomplices involved in the planning and execution of the fatal robbery received prison sentences of six and eight years.
