Ali Gezer (26) shot dead at a traffic light on Willem Schermerhornstraat

On the afternoon of Saturday 29 June 2013, at about half past two, 26-year-old Ali Gezer was waiting in his Volkswagen Polo at the traffic light where Willem Schermerhornstraat meets Haarlemmerweg in Amsterdam-Geuzenveld. A white Volkswagen Caddy boxed him in. Strikingly, it was not the passenger but the driver of that car who got out and opened fire; the passenger stayed calmly in his seat, as though he had no licence and the driver was the one who knew what Gezer looked like. After the shots the Caddy fled along Willem Schermerhornstraat towards Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat. Gezer's eleven-year-old nephew was in the car beside him and survived the attack. Police showed composite drawings of two men said to have been involved on the television programme Opsporing Verzocht, but kept several scenarios open and never officially established a motive. No one has ever been convicted of the murder of Ali Gezer.
