Souhail Laachir (26) shot dead at a dance party in the Maritime Museum

During the dance party Waterfront at the Maritime Museum on Kattenburgerplein, in the small hours of Sunday 26 May 2013, 26-year-old Amsterdammer Souhail Laachir was shot dead. At first it looked less like a contract killing than a row that had got out of hand: camera footage showed Laachir clashing repeatedly that evening with Dennis Mongen, a cousin of the career criminal Gwenette Martha. The first time, security staff pulled them apart. That same night police arrested Eanneas Lomp, who was driving an Audi, wearing a bulletproof vest and armed - but no gunshot residue was found on his body or clothing and his weapon had not been fired that evening. In 2015 Surailie I. was arrested, and from that moment prosecutors spoke of a contract killing. Hard evidence was thin: the murder weapon was never found and the seven cartridge cases left behind carried no fingerprints or DNA. I. admitted being there that evening but kept repeating: 'I have nothing to do with it.' On 15 September 2017 the Amsterdam court convicted him of manslaughter and imposed fifteen years, the maximum available for that offence.
