Rida Bennajem (21) shot dead on Comeniusstraat

On the evening of Saturday 16 March 2013, at around eleven, a witness heard someone shout 'Come on then, come on...' Then came eight or so shots. One of the bullets hit 21-year-old Rida Bennajem full in the face, on Comeniusstraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. He died at the scene. Bennajem was not unknown in criminal circles. He was held responsible for the murder of Redouan Boutaka and was said to have been involved in a killing in Antwerp. The investigation found that his BlackBerry was full of spyware, so that others could track him - a method that surfaced repeatedly in the Amsterdam killings of those years. A bunch of keys lay next to the body, carrying DNA that was not Bennajem's. In June 2013 22-year-old Suleiman L. was arrested on suspicion of taking part in the murder; according to prosecutors his DNA was on those keys. In July 2014 he was released: the court saw strong indications, but no new evidence for months. No one has ever been convicted of the murder of Rida Bennajem.
