Blessing Prince G. (3) thrown from the sixth floor of the Kikkenstein block

On Tuesday 9 April 2013 three-year-old Blessing Prince G. fell from the sixth floor of the Kikkenstein block in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. According to prosecutors he had been thrown by his uncle, Paul A., then 37 and from Ghana, who was staying with the family. A. had drunk a bottle of wine and a bottle of vodka and smoked cannabis that day, and said he could no longer remember exactly what had happened. An examination commissioned by the prosecution found that the boy would have been physically able to climb over the railing himself, but the child's mother stated that A. had 'thrown him away' because he was 'evil'. Other witnesses said A. had told them: 'I killed him.' In court he said only: 'I don't think I can have done that.' Prosecutors demanded twelve years. On 19 September 2014 the Amsterdam court sentenced him to ten years for manslaughter; on appeal that became eight.
