Dashamir Tila (37) shot in the head by a passing cyclist near Osdorpplein

Dashamir Tila, a 37-year-old Albanian known as Dashmano, was walking with his girlfriend near Osdorpplein on Sunday 21 April 2013 when a cyclist came up behind him and shot him in the head. Tila died of his injuries the next day. The gunman, 28-year-old fellow Albanian A. I., was arrested close to the scene. Tila had a substantial criminal record: in Albania he had been involved in, among other things, a kidnapping. He had only just finished that sentence when, on 4 April 2013 - a little over two weeks before his death - he checked into a hotel in Amsterdam-West using a false Czech passport in the name of Jan Trojak. Shortly afterwards he rented a flat; he evidently meant to stay in the city for a while. Prosecutors demanded eighteen years against I. for the murder of his compatriot. He received sixteen.
