Roy Titawanno stabbed to death during random stabbing spree in De Pijp by psychotic man

In the case of the fatal stabbing in De Pijp in Amsterdam, the 30-year-old Mustapha S. was sentenced by the court to compulsory psychiatric treatment (TBS with compulsory treatment). On the evening of May 21, 2021, in the area around Ferdinand Bolstraat, he stabbed several random passers-by in a short period of time, killing Roy Titawanno a 64-year-old man and injuring four others. According to the court and psychiatric experts, he was suffering from a severe psychosis during the incident and was hearing voices, which meant his actions could not be fully attributed to him. He was arrested shortly after the stabbing by police while in a confused state and was found carrying a knife. The court ruled that treatment in a secured forensic psychiatric clinic was necessary to protect society and therefore imposed TBS with compulsory treatment, in line with the prosecution’s demand.
