Welfare worker Roudile Paquay (29) shot dead on Van Limburg Stirumplein

On February 14, 2021, the 29-year-old welfare worker Roudile Paquay was shot dead at the Van Limburg Stirumplein in Amsterdam-West after he had been brought along in a Mercedes to help with a relationship conflict, where he was hit in the chest almost immediately upon exiting the vehicle. The police established that Paquay was an innocent victim, after which the 27-year-old shooter Atalja B. was arrested in Suriname and sentenced on March 23, 2022, by the Amsterdam District Court to fifteen years in prison for manslaughter and attempted manslaughter. The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence of premeditation and the demanded twenty-year sentence, and imposed compensation for the surviving relatives in addition to the prison sentence.
