Osiris Diawara (46) shot dead by police after armed robbery of Brink's transport on Meeuwenlaan

The 46-year-old Paris native Osiris Diawara lost his life on May 19, 2021, during a violent confrontation with police following a major robbery of a Schöne Edelmetaal armored truck in Amsterdam-Noord. The robbery sparked a wild chase that ended in a field near Broek in Waterland. Diawara, identified as one of the suspects, ran into the field where he was struck by police bullets. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he was wearing a bulletproof vest but was fatally hit by a police bullet just above the vest near his left collarbone. Investigations revealed that shell casings from ammunition he had fired himself were found near his body, indicating that he had deliberately shot at the police with a shotgun. Despite his attempts to flee, Diawara did not survive his arrest and died at the scene in the mud. The National Criminal Investigation Department (Rijksrecherche) investigated the use of firearms by the officers as part of the criminal proceedings surrounding the robbery, in which millions in precious metals were stolen.
