Willem van Elewout (62) stabbed to death by housemate in Spaarndammerbuurt

The 40-year-old Andrzej B. has been sentenced by the court to 12 years in prison and mandatory psychiatric treatment (TBS) for the manslaughter of 62-year-old Willem van Elewout and the rape of another woman. The investigation revealed that the Polish housemate killed the victim in February 2022 using a steak knife and a sharpening steel, after which he continued to live in the apartment on Houtrijkstraat for weeks while Van Elewout's body remained there. This gruesome case only came to light when a woman, who was being held captive and raped by B. in that same apartment, managed to alert the police because of a pervasive smell of decay. Although the Public Prosecution Service had demanded 18 years, the judge imposed a shorter prison sentence combined with the TBS measure due to the perpetrator's severe psychiatric issues and addiction.
