Loubna B. linked to the death of 72-year-old Teunis Weening

Teunis Weening, a 72-year-old man who called himself Ton, was stabbed to death on the morning of Sunday, 17 December 2017, inside his home on Sumatraplantsoen in Amsterdam-Oost. Shortly before 06:30, he was seriously injured in his apartment on the eastern side of the square. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene. He had been stabbed in the abdomen, chest and neck; the stab wound to his neck was fatal. The knife was later found on the pavement. The suspect was Loubna B., a 45-year-old woman who knew Teunis and had contact with him. Teunis had for many years lived on the margins of society. He was born in Groningen, had had several relationships and children, and moved to Amsterdam in 1982, where he experienced periods of homelessness and shelter life. His door was often open and people could easily walk in. On the morning of his death, Loubna B. was inside his home. She gave changing statements about what had happened. At first, she said Teunis had stabbed himself. Later, she said she had stabbed him, but in self-defence. According to her, an argument had started over money and Teunis had tried to attack her with a knife, after which she grabbed his hand and the knife ended up in his abdomen. She denied stabbing him in the neck. During the investigation, there were indications that the apartment had been cleaned after the stabbing before 112 was called. The Public Prosecution Service argued that Loubna B. was responsible for Teunis Weening’s death and demanded a ten-year prison sentence. In the first trial, the court acquitted her of killing Teunis, because it could not be established with sufficient certainty that she had also inflicted the fatal stab wound to the neck. She was, however, sentenced to nine months in prison for assault. The Public Prosecution Service appealed. The court of appeal later reached a different conclusion and found that Loubna B. was responsible for the death of Teunis Weening. In March 2021, she was sentenced on appeal to eight years in prison. The case was therefore ultimately treated legally as a fatal stabbing inside Teunis Weening’s home, with Loubna B. convicted as the perpetrator.
