Sabrina's telephone last signal was in the area of Reigersbos

Sabrina Oosterbeek, a 30-year-old woman from Amsterdam-Zuidoost, disappeared without a trace in March 2017. She was last seen during the night of 7 to 8 March 2017. Camera footage showed her leaving her home and cycling away. Her phone still gave a signal that night in the Reigersbos area. After that, nothing was ever heard from her again. Sabrina knew Sjonny W., an Amsterdam house painter who was later linked to several dead women. According to prosecutors, Sabrina, like another victim, had had sexual contact with him more than once, possibly in exchange for payment. In the night before she disappeared, she had contact with Sjonny W., and after that she vanished completely. Her body has never been found, despite several searches, including in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and around the Gaasp. As a result, her family was left for years without clarity about what had happened to her and was never able to bury her. The suspicion against Sjonny W. did not arise in isolation: the investigation into Sabrina’s disappearance also led detectives back to older cases involving Monique Roossien, who was found dead on Uitdammerdijk in 2003, and Mirela Mos, whose dismembered body was found in garbage bags near the Gaasperplas in 2004. In 2019, the district court convicted Sjonny W. only for the death of Mirela Mos and acquitted him in the cases of Monique Roossien and Sabrina Oosterbeek, because at that stage the court found there was insufficient legal evidence. The Public Prosecution Service appealed. On appeal, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled on 10 November 2021 that Sjonny W. was responsible for the deaths of all three women, including Sabrina Oosterbeek. The court found it proven that he had killed Sabrina and disposed of her body. Because her body has never been found, the exact cause of death could not be established, but according to the court the statements, the pattern across the three cases, the last contact with the suspect and his behaviour after her disappearance all pointed in the same direction. Sjonny W. was sentenced to 19 years and 11 months in prison and compulsory psychiatric treatment under a TBS order. In December 2022, the Supreme Court upheld that conviction. This made it final that Sjonny W. was responsible for Sabrina Oosterbeek’s death, even though her body has never been recovered.
