Justin Jap Tjong shot dead in Osdorp

Justin Jamery Jap Tjong, a 25-year-old man from Amsterdam, was shot dead on Tuesday evening, 31 January 2017, on Professor R. Casimirstraat in Amsterdam-Osdorp. Shortly before the shooting, he had left café ’t Calandje on Pieter Calandlaan and walked towards an arranged meeting point near Stadspark Osdorp. At around 22:30, he was shot at close range with an automatic firearm. He was hit by dozens of bullets, mainly in the upper body. Local residents and later emergency workers tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene from his injuries. At first, it was unclear why Jap Tjong had been killed. The case later became part of the major Eris liquidation investigation, linked to the motorcycle club Caloh Wagoh. According to prosecutors, his death was connected to the mistaken-identity killing of Hakim Changachi in Utrecht on 12 January 2017. Jap Tjong was said to have been the driver in that earlier liquidation, while Ferrel T. and Guyno O. were regarded as the shooters. The intended target had not been Changachi, but another man. When a new attempt was later planned against the original target, Jap Tjong allegedly refused to take part again. Prosecutors argued that this made him a risk to the people involved. On the night of his death, Jap Tjong was lured to Amsterdam-Osdorp. The court later ruled that Ferrel T. had trapped him and that the liquidation was carried out on behalf of the criminal organisation around Caloh Wagoh. Within that organisation, Delano R., the leader of Caloh Wagoh, was seen as a key organiser of contract killings. Feno D. and Jermaine B. were also convicted in the wider Eris trial for their roles in the organisation and the liquidations. In July 2022, several suspects were convicted in the cases concerning Jap Tjong’s murder and the broader Eris trial. Delano R., Feno D., Jermaine B. and Ferrel T. received life sentences at first instance. Moriën J. was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Ferman D. to 20 years in prison for their involvement in the liquidation; Moriën J. was linked, among other things, to the shooting and the disposal of the getaway car, while Ferman D. was regarded as the driver of the getaway vehicle. Guyno O. was acquitted at first instance of involvement in Jap Tjong’s murder, because the court did not find it proven that he knew the liquidation would take place. On appeal, the court delivered its judgment in the Eris case on 12 February 2025. Delano R., Feno D. and Jermaine B. again received life sentences. Other defendants received long prison sentences or were acquitted. The murder of Justin Jap Tjong is regarded as the beginning of the series of liquidations for which members and contacts of Caloh Wagoh were later convicted.
