Body of Cora Troost found in water in Amsterdam-Noord

Cora Troost, a 70-year-old woman from Marken, was found dead on Monday, 27 February 2017, in the water along Uitdammerdijk, between Uitdam and Durgerdam, in the rural area north of Amsterdam. She lived on Rozewerf in Marken and was known as an energetic, fit woman who had close contact with her children and friends. She trained regularly, enjoyed birdwatching and often went out early into nature. She most likely left her home early on Saturday morning, 25 February 2017. After that, no one heard from her, which was highly unusual for those around her. Her family raised the alarm and began searching themselves. On Monday, 27 February, her black Mini Cooper was found parked along Uitdammerdijk, facing in the direction of Marken. The car was locked and Cora’s car key was still in her pocket. Around 250 metres from the car, a police tracking dog later found her body in the water. Police were unable to determine where Cora Troost had been between Saturday morning, 25 February, and Monday, 27 February, why she had driven to Uitdammerdijk, or how she ended up in the water. The exact cause of death was also not clearly established. Because the circumstances surrounding her death were strange and unexplained, police opened an extensive investigation and appealed to the public for help. Investigators looked for people who had seen Cora or her Mini Cooper, witnesses who had been on Uitdammerdijk, and information about her plans in the days before her death. The chief public prosecutor offered a €15,000 reward for the tip that would solve the case. As far as is known, no suspect has ever been arrested or convicted. The death of Cora Troost has therefore remained unsolved. It has not been established whether she died as the result of a crime, ended up in the water by accident, or died due to another cause.
