Mike stabbed to death in front of flat Hofgeest in Amsterdam-Zuidoost

Mike Plet, a 20-year-old man from Amsterdam, was stabbed on Tuesday evening, 7 March 2017, outside the Hofgeest apartment block in the H-neighbourhood of Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The stabbing happened at around 23:30, after an argument between Mike and a boy who was 15 years old at the time. Mike was stabbed several times and seriously injured. Neighbours heard him calling for help and alerted emergency services. He was rushed to hospital. At first, he was still alive, but on Friday, 10 March 2017, he died from his injuries. After the stabbing, the perpetrator fled. Police opened an investigation and arrested a 15-year-old boy in Rotterdam two weeks later. Because the suspect was a minor, his name was not made public. The case was handled under juvenile criminal law. The court ruled that the boy had stabbed Mike Plet to death, but did not impose an adult prison sentence because of his age. He was sentenced to one year of juvenile detention. Mike Plet’s death caused deep grief among those around him. Relatives and neighbours described him as a quiet and well-liked young man, someone often seen in the neighbourhood and not known as a violent person.
