Man shot on the street in front of Hoptille flats

The 24-year-old Shaquille Goedhart was shot dead on 2 May 2019 near the Hoptille apartment block in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, close to the parking garage. According to reports, Goedhart was out with friends that evening when he said he had an appointment with someone. They drove to the area around Foppingadreef and Hoptille. When Goedhart got out of the car and walked toward several men, shots were fired almost immediately. He was hit in the head and neck and died at the scene despite resuscitation attempts. Witnesses saw two men running away. According to the Public Prosecution Service, Goedhart had been lured to Zuidoost in order to be executed. Badr K., Revelino V. and Marc-Anthony G. later became suspects in the case. All three denied involvement. The investigation focused partly on a getaway car, a grey Peugeot 308, allegedly used after the shooting and later seized by police. Although the car had been cleaned, investigators found a blood trace on the back seat containing Shaquille Goedhart’s DNA. Prosecutors also relied on phone records: according to the investigation, the suspects had been in repeated contact with Goedhart shortly before the killing. Marc-Anthony G. fled after the shooting via France, Guadeloupe and French Guiana to Suriname, but was later deported and arrested in the Netherlands. In June 2023, prosecutors demanded 25 years in prison for each of the three suspects. On 24 July 2023, the Amsterdam court sentenced Badr K., Revelino V. and Marc-Anthony G. each to 25 years in prison for the murder of Shaquille Goedhart. The court ruled that the killing had been prepared and carried out “deliberately and systematically.” It did not consider it necessary to establish exactly which of the three had fired the shots and which had driven the getaway car, because the court found that they had acted together. The motive remained unclear, but the court treated the killing as a settlement within the criminal underworld.
