Inchomar Balentien (33) shot dead at Kraaiennest metro station.

Inchomar Balentien, a 33-year-old man from Amsterdam, was shot dead during the night of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 July 2019 near Kraaiennest metro station in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The shooting took place around midnight on or near a parking area close to the station. According to reports, Balentien was standing there with others when a black car drove up and several shots were fired. He was hit and later died from his injuries. Multiple cartridge cases were found in the area, and bullets had also struck nearby homes. Police quickly treated the shooting as a targeted attack and described it as an extremely dangerous situation, especially because residents were nearby at the time. Shortly after the shooting, a burned-out car was found near the Gaasperplas, possibly the getaway vehicle used by the perpetrators. Balentien had previously been linked to serious crime, but that does not mean it became clear why he was killed. He had survived an earlier assassination attempt and had shortly before his death stood trial in another criminal case, in which he was acquitted. After the shooting, police opened an investigation and appealed for witnesses and camera footage. Based on publicly available sources, no one has been convicted for the death of Inchomar Balentien. The case therefore remains unsolved, and it is not known who the shooter or the person behind the attack was.
