Man stabbed multiple times on Hazelaarstraat in Noord

The case surrounding 36-year-old Mustapha ‘Moussie’ Zouini began on the morning of Saturday, October 28, 2023, in the Hazelaarstraat in Amsterdam-Noord, where a fatal stabbing occurred following a days-long drug binge in the home of then 63-year-old Regilio A.. The motive for the violence was presumably a conflict over a debit card. Local residents were startled by screaming and saw Zouini running through the street bare-chested and covered in blood, desperately knocking on front doors in an attempt to escape. He was pursued by Regilio A., who was armed with a large knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck and the region of the heart on the street. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene with a piece of wood and the efforts of emergency services, Zouini succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The perpetrator was arrested immediately and stated during the attack that the victim knew exactly why he was being stabbed. During the trial in January 2025, the Public Prosecution Service demanded eight years in prison and mandatory psychiatric treatment (TBS) for murder, but the court ultimately ruled that there was no evidence of premeditation, but rather a spontaneous explosion of violence. On February 11, 2025, the court sentenced Regilio A. to twelve years in prison for manslaughter.
