Nurse Karin Formark (47) shot dead by upstairs neighbor in West

Thursday evening March 30 2023 a tragedy occurred on De Wittenstraat in Amsterdam-West when 47-year-old Karin Formark was shot and killed. The victim was a nurse specialist at OLVG West and a mother of three children who was highly active as a coach and volunteer at the AVV SDZ football club. Around 8:15 PM Formark was targeted on the street by her 55-year-old upstairs neighbor Ricardo S. who immediately fled on foot towards De Wittenkade after the shooting. Emergency services responded in large numbers and attempted to resuscitate the victim but she passed away at the scene causing a shockwave throughout the neighborhood and the local sports community. The police launched an immediate manhunt using a helicopter and specialized units to locate the fugitive shooter. Shortly after the body of Ricardo S. was found in a nearby parking garage where he had committed suicide with the firearm used in the attack which ended any potential criminal prosecution against him. Investigations and witness statements revealed that the murder was the culmination of a long-standing conflict during which the perpetrator had systematically harassed and terrorized Formark's family despite previous reports made to the authorities.
