Anton Roodenburg (81) killed in his upstairs flat on De la Reijstraat

Anton Roodenburg (81) was born Otto, but everyone knew him as Anton. He was a familiar figure in Amsterdam-Oost, with his long white beard and the blue mobility scooter he rode almost everywhere. Until November 2025 he was a regular at a café on Krugerplein. In the months that followed he lived a withdrawn life: he rarely went out and rarely called anyone, which later made it hard for police to build a picture of his life. He is believed to have been killed during the night of Sunday 22 to Monday 23 February 2026. In his upstairs flat on De la Reijstraat in the Transvaalbuurt the lights burned continuously afterwards. On Wednesday 25 February neighbours found him; he had been killed with severe violence. How the killer got into the flat is unclear. Because of renovation work, scaffolding stood in De la Reijstraat that month. Investigators want to know what was going on in Anton's life, who he associated with and whether he had trouble or a quarrel with anyone. The case was broadcast on the television programme Opsporing Verzocht on 14 September 2026, and prosecutors are offering a 15,000 euro reward for the decisive tip. Elsewhere in the Transvaalbuurt, on the evening of Tuesday 14 April 2026, 54-year-old Jerry was stabbed to death by the basketball court on Tugelaweg. Both men were regulars at the same café on Krugerplein, but as far as is known they did not know each other, and police see no connection between the two cases.
