Cartney Kronstadt (27) shot dead during a rip deal on Cornelis Outshoornstraat

Cartney Kronstadt (27) was an Antillean criminal described by experts as intellectually limited. His father dealt drugs on Curaçao and was shot dead there. In 2008 Cartney was himself involved in a fatal rip deal against a drug dealer in Utrecht, for which he was sentenced to sixteen years in prison. He was allowed to await his cassation appeal at liberty. On the afternoon of Saturday 28 November 2015 he rang the bell at a house on Cornelis Outshoornstraat in Geuzenveld. At around three o'clock police received a call. Officers found a wounded man inside, the 59-year-old resident Petrus Johannes L., and shortly afterwards the critically wounded Kronstadt in the street. Resuscitation failed. L. was arrested, as was Peter van O., who was also present; the two knew each other from prison. Two firearms were found in the house, a pistol and a revolver, and at a third search a kilo of cocaine. Another kilo lay beside Kronstadt's body. According to Van O., Kronstadt had brought both weapons, had got into a fight with L., had dropped one weapon which Van O. picked up, and when Kronstadt pointed the other at him he had no choice but to fire. Prosecutors did not believe it and demanded nine years. In May 2017, however, the Amsterdam court acquitted both men: it held that what exactly had happened inside the house could not be established. Who shot Cartney Kronstadt has therefore never been determined.
