Baris Önder (26) killed in his car on S.F. van Ossstraat in Osdorp

Baris Erol Önder (26) was a criminal of Turkish descent well known in Amsterdam and the son of Atilla Önder, a major figure in the city's drug trade. On the night of Sunday 26 April 2015, at around ten past two, he was driving his steel-grey Audi along S.F. van Ossstraat in Osdorp, where an uncle of his lived. His car was riddled with bullets from an automatic weapon. Önder lost control, struck several parked cars and died at the scene. The woman in the car with him was unhurt. The killers fled in a silver-grey car towards Pieter Calandlaan. Just over four months earlier, on 9 December 2014, his childhood friend and partner in crime Murat Garki had been killed on Uiterwaardenstraat; the two murders appeared to be connected. Önder and Garki had been suspected of involvement in a killing in Amsterdam-West in 2014 — a case that was dropped — and of extorting and kidnapping a drug dealer. Both were known as rip-deal robbers. According to Het Parool and De Telegraaf the cause may have lain in 2013, when the body of a Dutch-Turkish criminal was found outside Istanbul, a death for which Önder was suspected both by criminals and by Turkish police. That man was said to have tipped off a large consignment of ecstasy pills that Önder and Garki were smuggling to Turkey. Investigators also examined a possible link to the murder of Beyhan Demirci three months earlier: Önder had been in a relationship with her daughter for several years. No one has ever been convicted of Baris Önder's killing.
