Siegmar 'Pito' Flaneur (24) shot dead on the cycle path at Leerdamhof

Siegmar 'Pito' Flaneur was born on Curaçao and came to Amsterdam with his brothers at the age of seven; his mother and sisters followed later. By twenty-four he already had a substantial criminal record for street robberies and assault, and was on the Top 600 list of prolific young offenders. He had served eighteen months for robbing a student and had been free again since May 2014. His lawyer described him as a cheerful young man who sometimes did stupid things, and argued he no longer belonged on that list: 'The Top 600 just sticks to you.' On the night of Wednesday 11 February 2015 Flaneur was at home gaming with his brother. He was called several times that evening and at one point pulled a rain suit on over his ordinary clothes, though it was not raining. After another call he left the house. At around ten to two in the morning residents of Leerdamhof in Zuidoost, two kilometres away, heard several shots. Police found Flaneur dead on the cycle path opposite numbers 380-388. He had been shot in the back. Two killers fled on a moped; a burned-out moped was found shortly afterwards on Maldenhof. In November 2021 Emylio G. was arrested, in the prison where he was already serving a long sentence. A second suspect, Randall D., followed. Both were also suspected of the 2018 murder of the intern Mohamed Bouchikhi (17). In May 2023 they stood trial for both cases and heard life sentences demanded against them. During that hearing it emerged that Flaneur and Emylio G. had been friends at the time — or so Flaneur thought, since he went to the meeting unarmed. Both were acquitted of Flaneur's murder, however. They were convicted of Bouchikhi's: Emylio G. to life, Randall D. to 29 years and 6 months. The murder of Siegmar Flaneur therefore remained unsolved.
