Man murdered, body later found in Belgium

Sherwin Peterhof disappeared in Amsterdam on 6 August 2025 and was found dead nine days later in a maize field just across the border near Meer in Belgium. A farmer discovered his body after noticing that part of the crop had been flattened; it had been wrapped in plastic and buried, with a branch placed on top to make the spot look natural. Investigators believe Peterhof was probably killed in a flat on Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and then moved. According to prosecutors the motive was a dispute over money: Peterhof allegedly took 100,000 euros in cash from the home of one suspect's mother and replaced it with counterfeit notes, after which he was lured to the flat. On 3 November 2025 that mother, 57-year-old Denise S., was arrested in Suriname at the Netherlands' request; her daughter Priscilla B. is regarded as the central figure in the case. Eight suspects have been arrested; one, 47-year-old Hugo Ruimwijk from Rotterdam, is a fugitive believed to have fled to Suriname, and police released his name and photograph. At a hearing in early 2026 prosecutors said Peterhof had been beaten to death without that being the intention, and in April 2026 the murder charge was dropped. Two-year sentences, six months of them suspended, were demanded against two suspects, Fatih T. (31) and Badreddine B. (41), for disposing of the body. On 25 June 2026 the Amsterdam court gave judgment in their case: eighteen months each, six of them conditional. The court called the way the body had been treated 'highly shocking' and marked by a total lack of respect; to prove the job was done, the men had filmed and photographed the dumping. It rejected their pleas of psychological duress and human trafficking, but held that those who commissioned them had deliberately exploited their vulnerability and heavy addiction. The six suspects held responsible for Peterhof's death itself have yet to stand trial.
