Khalid A. stabs partner to death in Amsterdam-West home

32-year-old Khalid A. from Amsterdam was convicted for the violent death of his ex-wife, 30-year-old Dragana Duric. In their home in Bos en Lommer, he stabbed her more than forty times. Neighbors heard loud chaos around 3:30 a.m.; one later said it sounded as if the whole house was being torn apart. Despite earlier death threats that Dragana had reported to police, the situation that night ended fatally. After the killing, Khalid walked to a police station covered in blood and turned himself in. Officers followed the blood trail back to Gerard Callenburgstraat, where they found Dragana's body. Although the Public Prosecution Service argued for murder, the court ruled differently. Due to severe addiction and mental health problems, the court found that Khalid was in a psychosis at the time, On 15 April 2026 the Amsterdam court held that he had been entirely without criminal responsibility at the time of the killing. It therefore discharged him from all prosecution and imposed TBS with conditions - mandatory psychiatric treatment - to reduce the risk of reoffending and protect public safety.
