Man stabbed to death after rent dispute

A 77-year-old man who rented out rooms in his home on Lekstraat in Amsterdam's Rivierenbuurt fell into conflict with a former tenant. When the situation escalated on 14 October 2025 he was attacked in his own home and stabbed thirteen times. Neighbours intervened and held the suspect until police arrived. On Friday 4 September 2026 the Amsterdam district court sentenced 31-year-old Alicia R. to four years in prison plus TBS with compulsory treatment. R. argued that the man had demanded sexual favours from her without payment during her stay in his home, but the court held that no lawful and convincing evidence of this could be found in the file. Extensive psychological and psychiatric examination established that she suffers from PTSD and an autism spectrum disorder; the court found her severely diminished in criminal responsibility and imposed TBS to contain the risk of reoffending and to treat her psychiatric problems intensively. In doing so it followed the prosecution's demand in full.
