Reduan B. (41) shot dead in his business on TT. Melissaweg

Redouan B., the 41-year-old brother of key witness Nabil B., was shot dead on the morning of Thursday, 29 March 2018, inside his own business premises at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-Noord. He was an entrepreneur, had no criminal record himself and was not regarded as part of the criminal underworld. His brother Nabil B. had shortly before become a key witness in the Marengo trial, the major liquidation case against the criminal organisation around Ridouan Taghi. For that reason, the killing of Redouan B. was immediately seen as a possible act of revenge or intimidation aimed at the key witness and those around him. The gunman was Shurandy “Andy” S., a man from Hilversum with a background in Curaçao. He had pretended to be a job applicant and had already gone to Redouan B.’s company on 23 March 2018 carrying a pistol. Six days later, he returned to the business. Redouan B. walked upstairs with him, after which Shurandy S. fired six bullets at him inside the building. Employees heard shots and screaming, and it then became clear that Redouan B. had been shot. He died at the scene from his injuries. Shurandy S. was arrested shortly after the murder and confessed that he had shot Redouan B. According to the court, he carried out the killing on order and was supposed to receive €100,000 for the murder assignment. He refused to say who had ordered the killing. He claimed that he did not know who the victim was and that he did not know Redouan B. was the brother of key witness Nabil B. On 10 January 2019, the Amsterdam District Court sentenced Shurandy S. to 20 years in prison for murder. The Public Prosecution Service considered that sentence too low and appealed. On 16 December 2019, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal imposed a heavier sentence: 28 years in prison. The court described the murder as cold, calculating and ruthless. On 20 April 2021, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction, making the 28-year sentence final. The murder of Redouan B. is regarded as one of the most shocking events connected to the Marengo trial, because an innocent brother of a key witness was shot dead inside his own business. The person who ordered the murder was not definitively established in this criminal case.
