Alcohol-fueled night, accidental shot

The 22-year-old Frank Y. from Amsterdam was sentenced to 24 months of juvenile detention for shooting and killing his 26-year-old childhood friend Richard Cordova during the recording of a music video in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The incident happened during the night of 27 January 2020 in a student apartment in the Daalwijk flat. Richard Cordova was filming and directing the video. Frank Y. used a real firearm as a prop, pointed it at the camera and pulled the trigger. Richard Cordova was hit and died shortly afterward from his injuries. The court acquitted Frank Y. of manslaughter, because it was not proven that he had consciously accepted the risk that his friend could die. However, the court ruled that he had acted recklessly. He was convicted of causing death by negligence and illegal firearm possession. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded four years in prison, but the court applied juvenile criminal law and sentenced him to two years in juvenile detention.
